Southern Rhythms with Botswana

Luxury from the Cape wine lands to the Vic Falls to game-plentiful Botswana; this itinerary offers some of the best experiences Southern Africa has to offer.

Day 1

Transfer to La Residence for 3 nights.

Gracing 30 acres in the Franschhoek Valley, this private hotel takes luxury to a whole new level. Sumptuous fabrics, brilliant, jewel-like colours and magnificently over-sized furniture conspire to create a sense of sublime opulence in Villa 3. This is a special place with a positively palatial feel that boasts an elevated four-poster bed, high ceiling and glamorous ensuite bathroom. Curl up on the vast plum-coloured couch and enjoy a roaring fire in winter, or sit outside on the terrace in summer and soak up the beautiful mountain scenery.

Sightseeing in the Winelands includes:

  • Cape Winelands including two wine tastes
Day 4

After your winelands tour today, the tour terminates at Ellerman House for 4 nights.

Ellerman House is a historic landmark which has been meticulously restored to its original early 20th century splendour.  With every modern convenience, the team at this hotel are dedicated to creating a discerning experience that is customised to your specific desires.

Sightseeing in Cape Town includes:

  • Orientation of the city, cableway journey up Table Mountain (weather permitting) and a visit to Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens
  • Cape Point Nature Reserve and Boulders Beach including helicopter excursion of Cape Point
Day 8

Air Cape Town to Victoria Falls for 2 nights at Matetsi Private Game Reserve.

Matetsi River Lodge offers a safari oasis that combines an exceptional wildlife experience and 27km (17 miles) of private Zambezi River frontage with easy access to the majestic Victoria Falls. The spectacular lodge pays homage to the wonderfully rich cultural heritage of Zimbabwe by showcasing a vibrant theme of wood and copper, the “red gold” of the country’s historical mining industry. Splashes of bright blue remind guests of the rushing waters of the Zambezi River.

Sightseeing from Matetsi includes:

  • Walking tour of the Falls
  • Helicopter excursion over the Falls
Day 10

Air to Duma Tau Camp for 2 nights.

DumaTau, meaning ‘roar of the lion,’ is a luxury tented camp on the banks of the Linyanti River’s Osprey Lagoon, located close to the source of the Savute Channel, between two elephant corridors, offering an exclusive combination of land and river experiences.

DumaTau consists of ten guest tents raised off the ground to take advantage of the dramatic views of Osprey Lagoon. Each canvas-roofed en-suite tent is spacious, and offers unimpeded vistas through ceiling-height glass sliding doors. Activities are diverse and allow guests time on the water, on land and on foot. Day and night game drives are conducted in open 4×4 vehicles along the Savuti Channel and the banks of Linyanti River. There are many hides in the area where guests can enjoy wildlife viewing away from a vehicle. During the dry months Sable and Roan antelope traverse the flood plains, along with Impala, Zebra, Giraffe, Wildebeest, Lechwe, Tsessebe and other plains game in the area.

Day 12

Air to Duba Plains Camp for 2 nights.

The renowned and totally brand new Duba Plains Camp sits in the heart of classic Okavango Delta habitat. A matrix of palm-dotted islands, flood plains and woodland, the 77,000-acre private concession typifies the region’s unique landscape. Duba Plains Camp offers 5 bespoke tents, in addition to a separate 2 bedroom suite aptly named the Duba Plains Suite.

Built on a wooded island, connected to the prolific wildlife area by an elaborate set of bridges, the camp is the base of many famous wildlife documentaries by National Geographic filmmakers Dereck and Beverly Joubert. It is the only camp on the concession, thereby offering guests the ultimate opportunity for great wildlife sightings. The mammoth interaction between large buffalo herds and Duba’s lion prides retains its lure, but with the increase in water in the last decade, this homogenous experience is now complemented by reliable sightings of a diverse range of other wildlife species and birding.
